DESOTO COUNTY, Fla. - DeSoto County Sheriff's Office is looking for two South Florida men wanted for grand theft and animal cruelty.

The two men stole a vehicle from the local Arcadia Wal-Mart parking lot on June 26 with the owners dog in the car, according to deputies.

The owner left the car running with the AC on for their dog Xochilt (pronounced So-Cheel).

DCSO said the two men appeared to be scouting the parking lot for an opportunity to commit a vehicle burglary or theft.

The owners car was found in Hialeah,  in Miami-Dade County on July 2 and Xochilt was left inside and died of heat exhaustion, according to deputies.

DCSO detectives processed the stolen car for evidence and brought Xochilt's remains back to her owners, the Lopez family.

DCSO seeks the community of Miami-Dade and DeSoto County to assist in identifying the two men involved.

Residents can call Detective Nicholas Danese or Lieutenant Jose Raya at (863) 993-4700 with any information on the two men.
